I am very excited by outernet and wish them every success.
However, there are valid concerns about what happens if they fail.
I just got a current quote for a 64kbps channel (20 GB/month) on Galaxy 19. It's $1,000/month. While not in many people's budget, a small group of dedicated individuals could fund an alternative, if the need arose.
Galaxy 19 only coveres North America and the throughput does not include protocol overhead. But, I simply want to point out what is possible.
I want to encourage everyone to contribute to Outernet, secure in the knowledge that the technology developed for Outernet will continue to of benefit to the world, even if Outernet is unable to continue in their mission.
